Matthew Swope, tenor, received a M.M. degree in
Voice Performance & Pedagogy and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with B.A. degrees
in Music and in Classics & Ancient Mediterranean Studies from Penn State
University.A native of Pennsylvania,
Mr. Swope is the Director of Choral Activities at Winter Park High School and
serves on the voice faculty of Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Mr. Swope
performs nationally as a choral singer with the Simon Carrington Chamber
Singers and Essence of Joy Alumni Singers.Also active as a soloist, he has been featured regionally and nationally
in works by composers including:Bach,
Beethoven, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Orff, Vaughan Williams, and Vivaldi.Mr. Swope has studied voice with Richard
Kennedy and Susan Boardman and coached repertoire with Marilyn Horne and Dawn
Upshaw.
Mr. Swope is an
active adjudicator and choral clinician.He has presented at conferences of the American Choral Directors
Association, Florida Music Educators Association, and the Classical Association
of the Middle West and South.Mr. Swope
is a member of NATS, MENC, FMEA, ACDA, IMC, and Pi Kappa Lambda.He currently serves as Repertoire and
Standards Chair for Male Choirs for Florida ACDA.
