Amy Waldron, soprano, currently seeks a Master’s Degree
in Music, emphasizing choral conducting, from the University of Missouri,
Kansas City.
Amy was awarded a Bachelor
of Music Education degree with a vocal performance minor from the University of
Kansas in 1998. While at KU, she studied
choral music with Simon Carrington and James
Daugherty.As a
member of ensembles under Mr. Carrington’s direction, Amy performed the Mozart Coronation Mass at
Carnegie Hall in May 1996 and toured England (1997), France (1998) and Hungary
(1999). In the fall of 1997, Amy traveled
to Budapest, Hungary, to study choral music and conducting with renowned
conductor and educator Éva Kollár at Eötvös Loránd University. Whilst there, she also sang and traveled as a
member of the Budapest Monteverdi Choir, which was awarded the Grand Prize at
the International Choir Competition in Sligo, Ireland that year.
Since moving to Kansas City in 2000, Amy has
sung as a member of the Kansas City Chorale, the Fine Arts Chorale, Octarium, and,
most recently, with Collegium Vocale, an ensemble directed by Dr. Ryan Board specializing
in music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque periods.
She has appeared as a soloist for the Youth
Symphony of Kansas City (1998), the Grace & Holy Trinity Summer Recital
Series (2001 & 2009), the Northland Community Choir (2007), on Christopher
Grundy’s album Here in Providence
(199) and Arlen Clarke’s album American
Sacred Choral Music (2006) and in joint choir productions of the Bach St. Matthew Passion
(2007), the Fauré Requiem
(2007), and the Rutter Requiem (2008).
Amy has been the soprano section leader
for Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Cathedral for the past nine years.
Last year, Amy was awarded a Graduate
Fellowship to study early music with Peter Phillips at the Tallis Scholars
Summer School in Oakham, England.
This
March, Amy had the delightful privilege of studying conducting, the life and
works of Igor Stravinsky, and Brahms’ Ein
deutsches Requiem with Maestro Joseph Flummerfelt, chorus master of the New
York Philharmonic, artist director of Spoleto Festival USA and conductor
laureate of the Westminster Choir.
Amy has studied voice with Dr. Wendy Zaro,
Rebecca Lloyd, and Ida Nicolosi.Amy
also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the SCCS.
