Josh Maize is a current
undergraduate student at the Conservatory of Music and Dance at UMKC.
He is
working towards a Bachelors in Choral Music Education. Mr. Maize is
studying both voice and organ at the Conservatory. His teachers have
included, Rika Heruth, Jedd Schneider and Raymond Feener; voice and Ann
Marie
Rigler and John Ditto; organ.
Mr. Maize has an avid
interest in early music including medieval notational practices as well
as
sacred choral works of the Baroque era. He is currently working on a
research project through a UMKC SEARCH grant he received focusing on
French
Baroque composer, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault. This project centers around
a
transcription of a motet by Clérambault.
Mr. Maize sings baritone in
the
Kansas City based early music ensemble,
Collegium Vocale which performs in the
Kansas City
area and has performed at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in
Charleston,
SC.
He performed with the JEMS Festival, an early music festival held at
William
Jewell
College in
Liberty,
MO.
He also serves as a vocal sub for numerous churches in the area.
As well as being a singer,
Mr. Maize is also an active organist. He studied at
McGill
University's
Summer
Organ
Academy
in
Montreal,
Canada where he participated in
masterclasses with Olivier Latry, Ben Van Oosten and Marie-Claire Alain.
Mr. Maize was a featured performer on the AGO's Pipe Organ Encounters
Young Artists Recital at
William
Jewell
College.
He served two years as Director of Music and Organist at Westwood
Christian Church in
Westwood,
KS
and is now serving as the baritone Vocal/Choral Intern at Village
Presbyterian
Church in
Prairie Village,
KS. Mr. Maize also maintains a large
private studio of piano and voice students in
North Kansas
City.
He plans to pursue a
graduate degree in Historical Musicology with hopes of obtaining a
college
teaching position. |
